(3). DETERMINING FIT AND HOLE SIZE

 Fit is the difference between the minimum diameter of the heater and the maximum diameter of the hole in which the heater is  Inserted.

      Based on the heater watt density and the operating temperature, a fit is determined from graph and the holes are drilled or reamed to result in that fit.

      Heater diameter tolerances and drill or reamer tolerances can, when combined, result in a situation where it is impossible to  attain the required fit.

  

      It may therefore be necessary in some cases to use center less ground heaters, reamers with extremely close tolerances, or special application techniques.

 

     The chart on lists the hole size and hole diameter tolerances required to attain fits from.001 in [.0254mm] to.100 in [2.54mm] for both centerless ground blazers and those with normal projection tolerances.

 

     The chart also indicates when to use centerless ground hi-watt,when to ream rather than drill,and other special application information.
